Arrived by private transfer van to Mérida after another 2 hrs drive. Had delicious late lunch at Museo de la Gastronomia Yucateca - MUGY. I had cochinita pibil, which is pork barbecued underground in a pit for 16 hours. It was delicious. Also had a juice of chaya (local kind of spinach), which was also surprisingly excellent. An orientation walk around Mérida was next, to see the most important landmarks for. Mérida is a very pretty colonial city with various remnants of Mayan constructions stolen and incorporated into colonial buildings. There are tourists around but not that many. Watched part of a public dance performance in the zocalo in the evening. On the 15th morning, had an excellent breakfast from La Bianca Mérida for a day trip out of the city.
